Ridiculous Runway – Mercibeaucoup a/w 09-10

with one comment

Hopefully you all don’t mind that I post some interesting runway shows from time to time, as I’m a retail major and keeping up on this stuff has become a priority this semester. And when I come across some out of control concept lines I just feel the need to share it.
That said, here is the Autumn/ Winter 2009-10 collection from Japanese label Mercibeaucoup.

That hat with the eyes is awesome.

Looks like the absolute warmest hood ever.

Wah! Those mittens!

I seriously think the sneakers have some potential. I’d like to see close ups.

Only in Japan, I swear someone could walk down the street in this and not even turn many heads.

The bows are out of control.

I think I could rock with this hooded sweater. I enjoy.

The over the top hair, makeup, and combination of pieces is just to set the mood and theme for the show. The pieces individually actually aren’t all that out of control and can more realistically be pulled off by themselves. Either way I thought this line was just crazy to look at and entertaining, which is exactly what Mercibeaucoup goes for. As their entire concept behind the brand is to make people smile and have fun with fashion. I think that sounds similar to many designer’s credos but this is one brand that actually lives up to it.

Rest of the collection here.
Only available at their 2 stores in Japan, these item might be a little hard to get at.

Roen Spring/Summer 2009 Collection

leave a comment »

The 13th of this month saw the final run out of the first installment of the 2009 Spring/Summer Collection from Japanese designer, Roen

Here is the concept behind this collection and some pictures from the look book

Light Side

Miami in the 1970’s was in it’s prime and a magnet to the rich and famous.
It was a place of freedom, experimentation and relaxation all at the same time.
For Spring Summer 2009 Roen’s inspiration comes from this spirit in Miami where fashion and style are taken on with ease and a relaxed attitude.

From the side of the pool with an afternoon cocktail in hand,
to wild night parties the dress code stays the same,
no restrictions and everything goes.

With out going back to the 70’s Roen pays tribute to them and wild days in Miami with his modernized version.

N. Hollywood s/s 2009 – New Order

leave a comment »

Progressive Japanese line N. Hollywood has released another themed season for spring/summer 2009 titled “New Order”

Before you judge, take a look at the inspiration of the line:
“A collection inspired by traditional Amish quilts, handing over from mother to daughter, from generation to generation. The designs reflect the disciplined lifestyle and the clothing of Amish as well as the respect for ladies quilters is incorporated in details. Quilts were spread over parts of the vast grass-covered runway. On this land, brightly-dressed children gradually grow up into adults covered in ”ordered” clothes.”

Conceptually I think this is just awesome. How they tied the boxy quilt theme into every piece of clothing so well and completely ran with it for the runway aspect as well is just great execution.

Check out the entire line in runway shots through the N. Hollywood site.
Also look for the collection at N. Hollywood stores in Japan and Hong Kong as well as IT in HK.
