MIchael Lau – CS Booth 16 "Gardener Still"

leave a comment »

Another season and another new release of toys from celebrated Hong Kong artist Michael Lau‘s Crazy Smiles.

On March 21st Michael Lau’s Crazy Smiles will release a whole new collection of toys that are still unknown. All we have as a preview are some promo fliers like the Metal Gear Solid inspired one above, so a possible Michael Lau x Solid Snake toy just might emerge.

If you are in Hong Kong, try to make it out to the Michael Gallery for this release, and you might just want to get there a little early. The reselling game in HK is something serious.

Michael Lau x Nike – Crazy Force 1 Release HK

with one comment

Headed out to Quarry Bay yesterday for the release of the Michael Lau x Nike Air Crazy Force 1. Getting there just a bit before doors opened we had no hope of getting a pair of sneakers (the line went down 6 floors on a stairwell) but it was cool, just wanted to check out the exhibit and save our $2,400HK for another day.

Greeted by this sign and a dark hallway, the scene was set.

The exhibit was a long room that emulated a psychiatric ward, complete with staff wearing medical jackets.
Lau created 25 demented animations of the crazy character losing his mind in a padded room. The videos were seen through little Nike swoosh cut outs lined down the walls.

The life size crazy Lau character was pretty creepy …… it even got us going crazy.

Nike and Lau did an amazing job, even the check out window was a giant swoosh in the wall.
Making Nike connects lol.
Now I can see why people go crazy in these rooms!

The exhibit was really impressive as Nike and Lau went all out for the presentation, not missing a single detail. Definitely worth the trip all the way out there, so if you have a chance I would suggest seeing this while it lasts.
The line was pretty nuts, so the 150 pairs went fast, but apparently there will be another release of the shoe (possibly without the toy and package) at NSW in Causeway Bay on the 3rd. No US release in sight, but hey you never know.

Bape x Touch Magazine – 700th Issue

leave a comment »

I’m walking through the hood of Sham Shui Po today and what do I see but a Bape Camo’d out issue of Touch Magazine. For their 700th issue, Touch celebrated Bape’s 15 years with a top 100 countdown of everything Bape.

A pretty interesting countdown, especially to see a number of Bape products that I never knew existed like Bape x Fender Guitars, Campbell’s soup, and even a Nakata Football (soccer ball). If you’re in HK its only 15HKD so go grab one n check it out, there’s also more previews of the Michael Lau Air Crazy Force 1.

Sorry for the poor quality pics, my camera is buggin’ right now but I’ll try to take better ones later.

A Closer Look @ Michael Lau x Nike – Air Crazy Force 1

with one comment

Some better images have surfaced of the Michael Lau x Nike Nike Crazy Force One package, now with a shot of the box, exhibit, and some of the details on this crazy shoe.

They really went all out for this exhibit, this is a picture of the actually gallery, that toy is life size and walls are all assuming the padded look. Pretty amazing and pretty creepy.

One scary and troubled toy right there.

25 marks for 25 years of the AF1

Not big on AF1s or white shoes, but the details on this package are amazing to me. The padded room, scratches, really crazy looking toy, and shoe box that’s even strapped shut. Lau really exhibits what his crazysmiles co. toys is all about.

The exhibit (and expected selling) is set for November 29th-30th at:
Michael Gallery
11/F, Lok’s Industrial Building
204 Tsat Tsz Mui Road
Quarry Bay, Hong Kong

Crazy Force One – Michael Lau x Nike

leave a comment »

Nike Sports Wear (NSW) has reached out to Hong Kong toy guru Michael Lau to design this Crazy Force One along with a matching toy for a project called “Psychiatric Ward”

You might remember Michael Lau and Nike’s last encounter resulting in the coveted wood grain dunk, box, and tox set. Well this collection looks to follow up very well. The detail on the shoes is amazing and together with the insane toy really gives the feel of a Psychiatric Ward.

The exhibit (and expected selling) is set for November 29th-30th at:
Michael Gallery
11/F, Lok’s Industrial Building
204 Tsat Tsz Mui Road
Quarry Bay, Hong Kong
